Step 2. (Continued
from Page 1) Position each bracket as shown in the diagram. This step
requires the possible use of all adjustments to achieve the proper fit.
Proper fit must include these contact points:
- The bracket base extends under the board with any
of the optional holes lining up with the steel tubing molded into the
bottom of the running board.
- The top of the bracket positioned snugly against
the floor of your vehicle.
- The hanger strap must lay flat against the reverse
side of the rocker panel. Remember that this strap may be mounted to
either the inside or outside of the bracket.
|
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT
CONTACT POINT ! ALL POSSIBLE ADJUSTMENTS MUST BE MADE TO ACCOMMODATE
THIS POINT.
Important Tip: The hanger strap should
be mounted as low on the bracket as possible for maximum strength.
If your vehicle has a pinch weld this makes an excellent attachment
point.
|
Once the proper position and fit has been established,
tighten the nuts on the bracket to lock it into the desired configuration.
Do not attach the bracket at this time.
Repeat Positioning Process for Second Bracket.
Step 3. Attach the Running Board to the
Rocker Panel.
Locate the self-tapping screws included in your kit. You will find 1-inch
and 5/8-inch screws. The 1-inchscrews are to be used to attach the running
board to the rocker panel. The screws should be placed approximately 3/4-inch
from the back edge of the board, but this may vary with some vehicle models.
The number of screws required for your vehicle is determined by the length
of the board. Generally, one screw every 10 to 12 inches is all that is
necessary.
Note: The attachment screws are
"tek" head self-tapping.
- NO PRE-DRILLING IS NECESSARY -
Using your screw gun or variable speed drill, drive
the 1 inch screws through the bottom of the board into the rocker panel.
Tighten only to the snug position. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN.
|
CAUTION |
| The rocker panels on some vehicles contain
electrical wiring and/or air conditioning lines. Before drilling,
physically check for this possibility and if either or both exist,
move them out of the way. |
|
Step 4.
Attach the Support Bracket.
Position the bracket as before and recheck the fit. Make certain that
all contact points are flush and that the top of the bracket is snug against
the vehicle floor. Make any necessary fit adjustments.
Hold the bracket in place and attach the hanger strap
to the reverse side of the rocker panel using four 1-inch self-tapping
screws.
Attach the base of the bracket to the bottom of the
running board using two 5/8-inch screws. Drive the screws directly into
the steel tubing molded into the fiberglass.
Repeat Attachment Process for Second Bracket.
Step 5.
Beginning with Step 1., Repeat the Entire Process for the Other Side of
Your Vehicle.
Step 6.
Attach the Full-Length Non-Skid Step Pads.
Remove the backing from the 3M "red" adhesive strips and position the
step pads onto each board. Press firmly throughout the entire length of
the step pads.
| Important: After installation apply full
weight pressure to running boards throughout the step area. This will
properly “seat” the screws into the fiberglass and eliminate future
stress sounds. |
